2007 tasting notes of disappointing red wines
The selected French bottlings have given me much pleasure for the price. I have purchased them again for personal consumption. Featured values include Malesan, Mouton Cadet, Guigal.
This page misses the tasting notes of the wines that are not imported into the USA. The complete page of french wine values can be found here.
The below wines were tasted in France, in 2007 (between April and December).
Bordeaux - Malesan
2005 - USD 13 - the glass levels would barely go down - the nose exhibits toffee, black chocolate and burnt hazelnuts - the palate is rather cloying, with burnt hazelnuts, red fruit, the texture of raw paste, a lack of freshness
Bordeaux - Baron Philippe de Rothschild S.A. - Mouton-Cadet
2004 - USD 23 - a good factory product, it does not shows the sanitary problems of the Mouton Cadet 2001 - the feeble nose exhibits dust, blackberry, blackcurrant, weed (due to the incomplete ripeness of the grapes) - the palate shows blackcurrant, dilution, a lack of aromatic intensity, a structure typical to Bordeaux, it is green and aggressive on the taste buds (for lack of ripeness), balancing acidity - an alternative rendition of the Atlantic coast is the pure and robust Brégeon Cabernet 2002 at half the price
Côte-rôtie - E.Guigal - Côtes Brune et Blonde - [syrah]
2002 - USD 51 - technically well made but reserved - the feeble nose mainly show blackcurrant - the palate is dense but not very onctuous, it lacks aromatic expression even though the acidity is balanced -
- This wine misses the joice of the Gallet (same vintage, same price) which shows starfruit, blackcurrant, violet and juiciness!
It might be time that you revise your buying strategy.
